Our client had a vision of creating 2 - 3 family houses on their family plot with achieving design features that all parties desired. We were given a brief to achieve a chalet style bungalows with modern features. Internally our client wished to achieve open space with two living rooms on Ground Floor and 5 bedrooms on 1st floor and 2nd house to be designed as 4 bedrooms bungalow with double space garage for each dwelling and additional front parking spaces. The design was based on maximizing the potential of the rear plots No. 5 and No. 7 and to design dwellings with achieving the principle of design for overlooking distances from front and rear of these properties and gain the maximum amount of floor space while meet client’s requirements.

Meet Dan, the lead Designer

Our client was looking to achieve a minimum two chalet style bungalows with two garages and private road at the rear of their two plots. Their main brief was to achieve a 5 bedroom bungalow with a large kitchen, dining and living area located to the rear of the property for a family of their size. And second house to be designed as 4 bedroom chalet style bungalow with open space kitchen-dining-living area.

 

Solution

Working on this project has a few concepts and designs stages. As first we’re provided 3D scan of the site, at the rear of No.9 Fanton Chase is located big Oak tree what has to have a root protection area and the new development had to be designed carefully around this tree. Secondly we’ re working with overlooking distances from front and rear of these dwellings what gave us a building line for new dwellings. As first have designed 3 chart style bungalow at rear of Fanton chase, what has got a planning approval on 28th of Jun 2019 (appeal decision). Later on our client decided they need a bigger house for their growing family and we went back to planning with a 2 chalet style bungalows.

The main concerns was to achieve all the elements of a modern family dwellings with detached garages and give them minimum of 5 bedrooms for one of the bungallows which was the brief. To achieve a two chalet style bungalows while maintaining the characteristic of the area, a hipped roof with cottage style dormers was located to front and rear of the properties.
